TEXAS MONTHLY MAGAZINE has honored six of our physicans this year by their inclusion on the Super Doctors ® 2010 list.  Amarillo Medical Specialists now has the largest number of doctors included on the Super Doctors list of any group in the region.

Congratulations to:   Dr Lawrence Schaeffer (Neurology),  Dr Georges Maliha (Kidney Disease), Dr Alan Keister (Internal Medicine) and Drs. Stephen J Usala, Kenny M Brantley & William C. Biggs (Endocrinology and Diabetes).

The Amarillo Globe-News has honored Dr Susan Neese as "Best Physician" in the 'Best of Amarillo' awards.  Additionally, Dr Alan Keister was the first runner up.

Congratulations to both of them, we are proud that you are part of Amarillo Medical Specialists.

Also, congratulations go to Dr Shilpa Saralaya, who was recently recertified in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine,  and Dr William C Biggs, who was awarded 'Endocrine Certification in Neck Ultrasound' (ECNU) by the American College of Endocrinology.

Update on our Blue Cross status March 14, 2011.

All of our doctors are still available to you.

Dr  Neese and Dr Biggs have been 'out of network' for Blue Cross since November 2010. Blue Cross patients continue to be welcome in all our offices, and we are not 'discharging' any patients because of their insurance.

Even though Dr Neese and Dr Biggs are 'out of network' you still have coverage to see them from most Blue Cross plans, and you are welcome in their offices. If you have Blue Cross and need financial assistance, you can discuss this with the office at your appointment.  Additionally, you can call your Blue Cross customer service office and ask for an override because of the 'network deficiency'.

The remaining AMS doctors have not set a termination date yet, and they remain 'in - network'.  Unless Blue Cross and our group are able to come to an agreement, we still plan to phase out of Blue Cross. Because we are still having discussions with Blue Cross, we are not announcing a final termination date.

We understand that you expect the health insurance that you are paying for to cover your health needs. Your best option is to find a better insurance plan. Blue Cross is counting on us being loyal to our patients and using that against us.

Our doctors are not accepting new Blue Cross patients except for emergencies, or when requested by a referring doctor. We will give our existing patients advance notice of any changes.

Again please note that we are not discharging any patients from our practices. Our established Blue Cross patients are still welcome to see us, even if we are out of network.

We do appreciate the support that we have heard from you.  It is not too late to call Blue Cross to voice your opinion on these changes, contact your insurance agent, or your company Human Relations or Personnel department. Your voices are being heard, and that is why we are still talking to Blue Cross.

If you are a Federal Employee in Open Season that is able to change plans, we do participate with GEHA. GEHA has an excellent physician panel. We have not had any difficulties with GEHA, and we get very few patient complaints about GEHA.

If you are not a Blue Cross insured, and wish to see Dr Neese and Dr Biggs, both practices are now open to new patients for the first time in many months. This is a situation that comes only rarely.... the physician that is voted the 'Best Doctor' in Amarillo actually has lots of openings for new patients at the same time. If you or a family member want to schedule a new patient appointment, please call 677-2039 for Dr Neese. We do not expect these openings to last long. To call Dr Biggs' office for a new appointment, call 358-8331.

We are interested in your opinion of our patient information 'portal'.

If you have used our portal since the upgrade in March, please fill out this survey.

 Now we're on Facebook too....
