Nephrology is the subspecialty of Internal Medicine dealing with kidney diseases and high blood pressure. Persons with kidney disease are typically referred by their family doctor or internal medicine doctor for consultation, however a referral is not required. Like most Internal Medicine sub-specialists, our nephrologists see general medicine patients on request.
Our nephrologists also manage patients requiring acute dialysis in the hospital and chronic dialysis at an outpatient center such as Dialysis Specialists of Amarillo. Hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis facilities are available. Typically our nephrologists provide primary care for patients that require dialysis. Evaluation for kidney transplantation is carried out whenever appropriate.
