Dr. Schaeffer is a board-certified neurologist and internist specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of nervous system disorders. His expertise includes headache and seizure disorders, traumatic brain injury, neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and ALS, stroke, movement disorders, sleep disorders, multiple sclerosis, and neuromuscular diseases.

He earned his medical degree from Anahuac University and the University of the State of Mexico and completed internships in Internal Medicine/Surgery and Pediatrics/Obstetrics and Gynecology in Mexico City. Dr. Schaeffer went on to complete his Internal Medicine residency at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in El Paso and a Neurology fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas.

Board-certified in Internal Medicine (since 1987) and Neurology (since 1993), Dr. Schaeffer has served the Amarillo community since 1997, providing care in his office and at Northwest Texas Hospital and Baptist St. Anthony’s Hospital. His office offers lab services, EMG, and nerve conduction studies, and he is currently accepting new patients by appointment.
