William C. Biggs, MD, FACE

Endocrinology

Dr. Biggs has been serving the Amarillo community since 1986, providing advanced care in endocrinology with a special focus on diabetes management, thyroid disease, and osteoporosis. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry with high honors from the University of California, San Diego in 1978 and went on to receive his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas in 1982. He completed his internship in Internal Medicine at UC San Diego, followed by residency training at New England Deaconess Hospital / Harvard Medical School in Boston. He then pursued fellowship training in Endocrinology at the Joslin Diabetes Center and Harvard Medical School.

Board certified in Internal Medicine since 1985, Dr. Biggs was also among the first physicians in the nation to achieve board certification in the new specialty of Clinical Informatics in 2013. In addition, he holds ECNU certification from the American College of Endocrinology for thyroid ultrasound and fine needle aspiration.

Dr. Biggs provides comprehensive care for patients with diabetes, including dietary education, oral medications, GLP-1 therapy, insulin, insulin pumps, artificial pancreas systems, and continuous glucose sensors. He also has extensive expertise in diagnosing and treating thyroid disorders, performing in-office thyroid ultrasound and fine needle aspiration in a comfortable and cost-effective setting. His practice uses a team-based approach with Nurse Practitioners and Diabetes Educators to deliver personalized, intensive care for each patient.

Beyond his clinical work, Dr. Biggs leads AMS Clinical Research, where he and his team conduct studies on new medications, educational methods, and medical devices. His research has been published in respected medical journals including JAMA, Clinical Diabetes, and Diabetes Care.

Dr. Biggs also serves as CEO and Medical Director of the Amarillo Legacy Medical ACO, an organization dedicated to improving healthcare delivery through collaboration among providers and advanced use of health informatics. He is a sought-after speaker at national conferences, presenting on population health and innovative approaches to lowering healthcare costs while improving outcomes.

He has held numerous leadership positions in Amarillo healthcare institutions, including Chief of Medicine at Northwest Texas Hospital, President of its Medical Staff, and service on the Board of Governors of the Northwest Texas Healthcare System. He has also served on the Board of Managers of the Amarillo Hospital District since 2017.

Dr. Biggs has been recognized as a Texas Monthly Super Doctor in Endocrinology every year from 2005 through 2023 and is a Fellow of the American College of Endocrinology. His professional affiliations include the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (charter member), American Diabetes Association Professional Section, American Medical Association, Texas Medical Association, Potter-Randall County Medical Society, and the American Medical Informatics Association.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Biggs is married with four children and enjoys time with family.
